1. Art Criticism Process: •Describe - Explain what you see and what the art piece is. •Analyze - Use the elements & principals of art to reflect on the art piece. •Interpret - Explain the motivation, message, history, and reason behind the art piece. •Evaluate - How successfull was the art piece? Explain why it was or wasn't successful. 2. 3. This is a watercolor painting based off of a painting picture I took at a river. It includes the sunset, the water, and the edge of the land. This painting includes lines such as the sky lines, the grass lines, the tree line. It has good balance but it doesn't have good rhythm because the sunset doesn't blend as well as it should. It also has many colors that give the painting a good contrast. There are many light values but it is balanced out by the intensity of the dark tree line. It overall has good harmony. This picture is of the bay river. My grandfather has a house on the river and me and my family go there on vacation sometimes. I thought it would be interesting to paint because it's not only a beautiful scene but it is a place that I grew up at. It represents a special place that I have very good memories of. I think this painting was successful because o captured the overall scenery of the picture but I would like to have time to blend the sky more so it gives it more of a sunset look to it. I am happy with the outcome and this is one of my favorite pieces that I have done this year. Pick 3 Questions: 1. What is art? •Art is anything that someone creates. People always judge art and decide if it's good or bad but all art is different and there are so many directions you can take the term "art". It can be a painting, a sculpture, a video or so many other things. Sometimes art is thought of as a drawing or a painting but art can be anything you want it to be. If you create something and you are happy with the way it turned out, it can be art. Its is a way of expression that people can take any way they want to by transforming things into something that they are proud of and can say that they made it. In Art class this semester, we painted, sculpted, took pictures, and animated but that is not even the beginning of what art can be. Art has so much potential and can be so many things. 8. What was the warm up or sketchbook assignment that you learned the most from? •I have learned the most from the warm up when we had to practice drawing the parts of a portrait. We learned how to draw an eye, an ear, a mouth, and a nose. It taught me the proper technique to draw the parts of a face so it helped me on my final portrait. I learned not to outline a nose, but use values to create the shape of it. I also learned to use shapes to create a mouth instead of trying to replicate the lines. I improves on eye values and ear details as well. I learned a lot on this warmup that I can use in any portrait that I do in the future. 18. Which medium did you most enjoy working with and why? Which medium did you not use but wish you had explored? •This semester, my favorite medium to work with was clay. It was different than any other medium we worked with and I really enjoyed being able to sculpt with it. I used clay to make a pineapple box, which didn't end up opening, but I really liked the process of creating it and they way the final product looked. I would like to have experimented with paper mache because I enjoyed sculpting and paper mache is a very unique way of sculpture. I have watched other people work with paper mache and they looked like they really enjoyed it so I would have liked to try it.
